Been too long since I have updated my blog. Life seems to keep us busy. As most of you know, we are part of the Lakeside Elementary community and have two kids who have/are attending the school. We chose the school as the place we would like to partner with in educating our children. I can easily say that my kids have benefited greatly by the program and staff at Lakeside.

There is a parcel tax measure (C) being mailed as I type to your houses that will directly effect the future of Lakeside. Almost a year ago the school was notified that a significant portion ($250K) of funding will be cut. The root cause is the economic crisis and particularly the California school funding process. Without this funding Lakeside would not go away, but the award winning program that exists would disappear.

So the community and school have come together with a plan to keep Lakeside successful. This new tax will be solely targeted to the school and will only be spent on the education of kids. With this funding Lakeside can and will continue to be a world class award winning school. Without the funding… well it will not be pretty 140 kids and five teachers.

So.. my message is simple. Approve the new tax, support your school, support your community.

Moving on

With grateful anknowledgement to Ralph & Linda Becker, the election is over and Philip and I are continuing with the school board.

Ralph & Linda did a great job of printing signs and making sure they were distributed all over the mountains. I am glad the election is over and we can focus our attention on the school.

Thanks again to all those who helped in the campaign and voted for Philip and I.

WOW! API Scores are out.

As you can see Lakeside can in once again with great API scores! VERY impressive.

Candidate

I am now officially a candidate for the board of directors of Lakeside Joint School District. The election is at the same time as the presidential election on Nov 4th. I am excited about working with the school. Lakeside has been a great place for my kids and I am committed to help continue the success of the school. I have already been appointed to the board replacing a member that left before the end of his term. So I have filed as a Appointed Incumbent. I was sworn in to the position in July 2008.

As a candidate I commit to supporting the current direction of the school and have a few ideas on how I can help continue the success of Lakeside. Simply put I intend to help Lakeside by:

  • Focus on education - keep your eye on the ball - Education is the core of Lakeside and we need to stay focused on supporting the teachers and staff and kids.
  • Keep the business of Lakeside moving - it takes a lot of effort, resources, and money to keep Lakeside a functional entity.
  • Look to the future - planning for the future is key and we need to keep looking forward to make sure we can keep the great educational programs in place and improving.

Introduction

This whole process of public discourse is a bit foreign to me. So you will have to bear with me as I get started with this blog. There are a couple of external events that are driving my Blogging, but I am hoping it will be something that I can continue to develop and maintain.

Since we moved to the Los Gatos mountains we have found that there is a great sense of community. A key focal point for that community is Lakeside Elementary School. As soon as our kids started attending the school we became involved with the school. It started small at first, my wife (Susan) helping out in the class. From there we started helping out at events and special committees.

Our participation has been rewarding, we are receiving much more than we have been putting in to the school. The core of the school, education, is solid. The teachers are awesome. The school is run well. The community is involved with the school at a level I have not seen before.

So… I was interested in how I can help. I talked with a few people and ended up joining the Lakeside’s school board to fill in for the rest of a term of a previous board member. I have also committed to run as a candidate for the November 4th election as a Lakeside Joint School district board member.

As an entrepreneur I have been part of and led a fair amount of teams and participated in several corporate boards of directors. I can bring my 20 years of business experience to the board.

That’s it for now. I’ll be providing a lot more info on the school and my candidacy as I get time.
